The University of Texas fishing team of Matthew McClellan and Tyler Fisher claimed the overall lead in the FLW College Championship on Thursday, April 7th.
The duo was one of only three teams that posted a full five fish stringer on Kentucky lake.
The fishing was rough all day, and not kind to anyone, including the winners, but the pair managed to post a final weigh in of 15 pounds, 4 ounces.
With weather conditions in the 40 degree range, McClellan and Fisher used a “run and gun” approach to catch their fish. Switching from spot to spot, and keying in on specific patterns.
While the two college fisherman would not reveal their choice of baits, they did concede that they “weren’t fishing very deep.”
Other finishers from yesterday’s action were LSU in second place, with only three keepers.
Christopher Newport college came in third, and Virginia Tech and the University of Florida rounded out the top five.
