River2Sea Dahlberg Diver Frog

It may seem like we’ve gone a little frog crazy over here lately, but that’s just because it’s a great time of year to catch some serious bass on frogs. Lily pads, bulrushes, submerged trees and large weed and grass beds are all fantastic places to find big bass during the late spring.

That is precisely what I’ve been doing with the Dalberg Diver Frog from River2Sea lately.

The Action

The first area where this bait absolutely shines is the action. I’ve never seen legs move quite like this bait in the water before. During the retrieve you will notice the legs retract when you pause. This creates an incredibly life-like kicking action that really does look like a swimming frog.

The most unique facet of the action is, of course, the dive. This is where the Dahlberg Diver changes from simply looking like a frog, and really moving like one.

The bait can be fished on the surface, or as far down as a few feet. In the shallows, this will allow you to bury it in the mud, just like a frog, then kick back up and do it again. You really have to experience this type of action for yourself.

The Construction

The body of the Dahlberg Diver Frog is incredibly detailed. The finish is amazing and quite simply beautiful.

The legs are just as detailed and have amazing bounce to them.

The weed guard is very interesting. It fits like a collar on the head of the bait, and over the top to protect the hook. When you are diving your frog, you will find that the guard goes almost invisible in the water. It doesn’t kill the action at all, and it will not be perceptible to the fish.

Do be aware of a couple of things though. First, on your cast, the legs will occasionally get themselves on the same side of the hook. This will kill the action, and you just need to haul it in and start over. It doesn’t happen a ton, maybe one in 15 casts, but do be aware.

Secondly, you need to order some extra legs with it. When the bass hit the Dahlberg Diver Frog, they smash it. Now, this is a good thing, of course, but it does do damage to the legs. River2Sea has them available at their website.

Overall, the Dahlberg Diver gets a very good score of 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. It’s a great bait, and we definitely recommend it.

See ya on the water…
