Steve Kennedy took home the big prize this weekend on West Point Lake in Georgia.
Kennedy had to overcome being in 5th place on the final day of the tournament, and jumped over 4 other anglers to take the top spot, including Edwin Evers, who was in first place and on the brink of his second Elite Series win of the year.
It could be said that Kennedy had a slight advantage—he had been fishing West Point since he was a young child with his father and brother.
Swimbaits were a key to his success. He fished a Basstrix, and a Kinami Flash among others to bring home the trophy.
Evers, for his part, was very disappointed in his loss. On the final day of the tournament, he weighed in with only four fish, one shy of the limit, and lost by only two pounds. One more keeper would have most definitely secured another win.
At the end of the day, this is exactly how tournament bass fishing can be. Kennedy took home the $100,000 prize and a guaranteed spot in the 2012 Bassmaster Classic.
