ICAST 2011: Damiki

Damiki has a couple of new entries into the terminal tackle arena that are the company’s answer to some specific rigging problems. The first is the D-Hold Hook. This product offers an alternative to screw type keepers for soft plastics. The D-Hold is a small, uniquely shaped piece of wire attached to the hook eye that allows the angler to thread the bait onto this wire like rigging on a worm hook.

The idea is that this system will keep the bait straight every time and is virtually idiot-or angler proof. These hooks are being produced as weighted and unweighted, will come in a good variety of sizes and should be in stores soon.

The new Mausrin Jig has as elongated weight that is horizontally justified and attached to the hook eye. This configuration is supposed to allow your soft plastics a greater range of motion as well as a more natural appearance. This product will come in a number of sizes and should be available soon.

Damiki has showcased three new hard baits. The first being the DC-400. Those of you familiar with the DC series know that this is a wide wobbling, high floating crank. The 400 is designed to get down in the 14’ to 18’ range which is the deepest of the DC family.

The Damiki D-Pop 70 is a popper with a couple of interesting characteristics. When at rest, it sits in the water at an approximate 45 degree angle. The D-Pop can be walked with the right retrieve as well as popped. There will be several colors available with the release date expected later in fall.

Damiki has come up with a couple of new soft bait designs that are somewhat unique. The first being the Hydra Evolution. This bait takes off from the established Hydra with its 24 balled tentacles on one end and adds a twin tail on the other. The Hydra Evolution was designed as a flippin’ bait and bed-fishing bait. It’s large, bulky profile will be easy for the fish to locate.

The other new soft bait is the Air Craw, named because their are air pockets in the claws that cause the bait to float up in the defensive position when at rest. It will be available in 3” and 4” versions, multiple colors and should be in stores soon.
