When G. Loomis came out with the GLX series of rods, they were well-received, exceptional pieces of equipment. They set a certain standard for how a rod should perform, and for the quality that should go into them.
Then G. Loomis goes back into the lab and creates the NRX series of fly rods and managed to outdo themselves.
These rods are 15% lighter and up to 15% stronger than the GLX series. The NRX series seeks to create a new standard for the high-end, high-performance rod segment—and manages to do a fine job.
NRX Features
The single best standout feature of these rods is that they were not designed to be cookie cutter, one size fits all.
Instead, you can choose from 6 different rod handles to best fit your style of fishing and your preferences. This even includes a spey casting version.
In short, it doesn’t matter if you fly fish for bass, trout, salmon, steelhead, or anything else, this series of rods will have a model of the highest quality just for you.
Fishing The NRX Fly Rods
So, they are built with quality materials, they look fantastic, and you can find one with a handle to fit you like a glove. That’s great, but how do they fish?
In short, like a dream.
They are very lightweight, which makes a long day full of casting a breeze. The guides have a proprietary and exclusive coating that reduce friction and line noise. Most importantly, that coating makes shooting the line and long double-hauls no problem at all.
On top of all the functionality of these rods, they also just look really nice as well. And looking good on the water is an underrated skill!
