ICAST 2012: Abu Garcia

Abu Garcia has gained a very loyal following for their REVO line of reels. This year they have made improvements across the line starting with the REVO Premier Generation 3.

They have reduced the weight, increased max drag pressure, made improvements to their braking system, made the footprint more compact and improved the gearing system all while keeping the functionality of the previous model.

The REVO S, SX, and STX Generation 3 have undergone similar improvements in terms of weight reduction, drag system and new gears but maintain their individuality with their magnetic braking systems and other features.

For you inshore addicts, there are Generation 3 models in casting and spinning versions that have been enhanced to accommodate the abuse salt water puts equipment through. While these tend to be a bit larger than most bass anglers are used to, they can be used in fresh water as well.

Of course no discussion involving Abu Garcia would be complete without mentioning their rod series. The Vendetta features 30-ton graphite, extreme exposure reel seat for improved sensitivity while featuring a parabolic action that is crisp but still forgiving.

The new Volatile series uses similar blanks but are designed for the in-shore angler or larger fresh water baits. They utilize split EVA foam grips and traditional sized guides.

For you Toro fans, the Toro NaCL Generation 3 Casting Reel is made for inshore applications and come with a standard two paddle handle handle or a larger single grip power handle. These too are at home in fresh water but, because they are larger than the average bear, are best mated to larger baits.
