I love when a manufacturer really goes for it.
When they put some serious work into their line, and the whole line stands out, it is truly a special thing.
Evolve Baits did just that this year at ICAST.
Every bait in the booth from Evolve had something that made it unique. Whether it was the detail, the styling, the engineering, or the materials, they put care and consideration into their products.
The Baits
Here were a few of my favorite baits that Evolve brought to the table.
The Mad Mouse is a great little topwater mouse. It is very realistic when you just look at it—it even has hair detailed on the soft-plastic body. When you get it in the water, the kicking action of the bait looks incredibly life-like. If you’ve ever seen a rat or a mouse swimming across the top of a lake, you will love seeing this thing on the end of your line.
Evolve’s Nervous Walker Frogs are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. I really mean this—these are the absolute softest frogs I’ve ever felt. The softness of the body is really going to make a difference when you get hit, and you’re setting the hook. The body collapses, you your hooks find the lip.
While the Nervous Walker was my favorite, you also want to check out the Species Frog and Pulse Frog. They look like little pieces of art.
I’ve saved my favorite for last—The VibraGrub.
When this thing gets in the water and you start retrieving, you will be blown away. The action is absolutely incredible, and the disturbance it creates in the water is equal parts subtlety, and bombast.
Let me put it this way—there are maybe 10-12 baits that will make their way into my tackle box permanently from ICAST this year. The VibraGrub is on that list.
