In keeping with our theme of finding the new and unusual, we are very excited about this!
A European company is making some inroads stateside, and competitors should be put on notice. These guys are talented, and really know what they are doing.
There is some serious, outside-the-box thinking going on at Savage.
Take a look at a few of these designs and you will quickly see why we find them so exciting.
Savage Pop And Prop
Chances are you’ve fished a popper. You’ve probably also fished a propeller bait.
I can’t recall ever fishing a bait that had both. That is what the Pop and Prop is doing. If for nothing else, this bait will catch fish purely by virtue of not having been seen before.
On the front, you’ve got a popper, on the back, you have a small prop. You only have one hook.
I asked why only one, and found that adding a hook on the back would kill the action of the propeller. The bait is small enough though, that it won’t really matter—a fish is going to swallow this thing whole.
A “Skeletal” Crankbait
There hasn’t been much changed in the way that crankbaits deliver sound in a long time.
They have little balls made out of steel, tungsten or something else, and they sit in a chamber creating a noise when the bait moves. Pretty elementary, right?
What Savage has done is create a little skeleton and place it in there. The balls will bounce against the skeleton to create the sound, as opposed to the standard chamber.
I was able to hear a difference in the way it sounded, I can only imagine how a fish is going to react. These things look like nothing else on the market—can’t wait to fish with them!
Hopefully, Coming To A Store Near You
These baits are absolutely beautiful.
The quality and thought and detail that has gone into these designs is amazing. Hopefully, we will see these in stores in the US shortly after the ICAST 2012 show.
If not, hurry up and visit www.savage-gear.com to check out what they have, check out some videos, and see some really big fish getting pulled in.
Below, have a look at the photo gallery to see the level of detail that goes into each bait.
