Shimano offers so many quality products, it can become easy to get lost in all of them. We took a look at all of the new offerings at the booth, and were pleasantly surprised that they were able to continue to make improvements this year.
For the new season we start with the new Saros FA Spinning reel. They introduced a new graphite called XGT7. The claim is that it is amost 200% stronger than current versions. It features a two bearing supported pinion gear, a new rapid fire drag that takes less turns to increase or decrease the pressure. It will come in four sizes, 1000 through 4000 series.
Another reel in their line-up is the Symetre FL. This reel features a new compact body but incorporates the new features found on the Saros.
Finally the new Sahara FE which uses some of the new technologies but comes in at a retail price of about $80.00.
For you round reel guys, Shimano has re-designed the Calcutta D. It has a new smaller profile that is tapered down on the non-handle side to make it easier to palm.
They have also re-positioned the drag adjustment to the outside of the handle putting the handle closer to the body which is said to improve the application of power when cranking.
Outdoor Apparel
If you’re unaware, Shimano also produces apparel for the angler the newest of which is the Evair Boots and Shoes. They feature non-slip, non-marking soles with an interior sole of EVA for all day support and comfort.
For the avid angler who doesn’t care what Mother Nature throws at them, the Dryfender Rain Gear is worth a look see. Introduced last year, there are some improvements to the line this year which include a new cap made of the same material.
Look for full reviews of a few of the reel models coming very soon.
