Boyd Duckett Takes Home Championship And Classic Berth In New York

Syracuse, New York– Boyd Duckett has a lot to be thankful for these days. The Demopolis, Alabama pro has a two week old son at home, a nice looking trophy and $100,000 from the Ramada Championship on Oneida, and now knows what he will be doing in February next year—fishing the Classic.

Before the tournament, Duckett was in 53rd place in the point standing, so a win was just about the only thing that would keep him from missing a second consecutive Classic.

The win itself is a testament to perseverance, and determination—the kind the tortoise would be proud of, and the hare would have to hate. Boyd was in 27th place after day one. He brought a monster 17 pounds, one ounce to the scales on day two, which was good for second place. Day three, he was able to maintain that standing, and day four, he brought another 17 pound sack to the scales, closing it all out.

The Winning Baits

With a nice mixture of large, and smallmouth bass contributing to the win, Duckett had a few things in his bag of tricks.

For largemouth, he flipped a 3 inch Chigger Craw, or a Chatterbait, or a Lucky Craft Gunfish.

For the smallies, a 4-inch blue-herring Berkley Hollow Belly swimbait, rigged on a 1/8-ounce Buckeye J-Will swimbait head, was the magic approach when they started to school.

After missing the Classic last year, you can bet Boyd Duckett will be motivated like never before to bring home a win. Plus, with a new baby at home, that could be the secret sauce he needs to drive him to a win.
