We wanted to do one more article to cover a few more of the offerings that debuted at the Classic as we feel that these products may strike a cord with y’all as they did with us.
At the Jackall booth we had a chance to see their first entry into the U.S. rod market which is in reality, a collaborative effort between Jackall and Shimano named the Poison Adrena. These rods employ several new technologies including CI4 reel seats, a carbon monocoque butt section as well as a blank manufacturing process that rolls carbon tape both inside and outside of the blank for increased sensitivity and decreased weight.
These things are cool!
Having had the opportunity to play with them on the floor, although we’re still waiting to actually get them on the water, we can say that these sticks seem to embody what Jackall has been to the lure market. Solid, well executed in design with the end purpose in mind and innovative.
Jackall used the occasion of the Classic to introduce a new bait to their line-up of hard baits as well. The Jackall iProp is a spybait. This technique was developed in Japan but is gaining popularity here. Spybaiting is a finesse tool that involves light line, long casts, a slow retrieve and a sinking prop bait.
The iProp is everything we’ve come to expect from Jackall in terms of finish, quality components, innovation and, at the risk of being redundant, purposeful execution.
We sat and watched the demonstration at the tank of this bait. It really is impressive how the iProp moves with so little effort from the angler.
Remember, don’t over think this
One point on the technique of spybaiting. Much like using a soft plastic stick bait, you don’t want to over think this lure. A slow retrieve with varying pauses produces excellent results from the bait. As a search lure, its diminutive size coupled with a very natural action stands to get the attention of bass without spooking them. A welcome combination in everyone’s tackle box we’re guessing.
A new Jerkbait anyone?
For all of you jerkbait fans, Tightlines UV showcased a new series of hardbaits that produce similar results under a black light as do their soft plastics. Unfortunately we were so intent on handling the new baits that we plain forgot to write down the product names.
However, we can tell you that the jerkbait is similar in design to many of the competitors models. It is well styled, has some interesting color patterns but again uses the UV coating. This is one that you can be sure we will be fishing and do a full review on.
More ways than ever to get on the water
And finally the array of PWC (personal water craft). These things have made enormous strides over the last several years with something new that improves their utility being incorporated into these creations every few months.
If you’ve been looking to get into one of these, take some time to do your homework as you may be surprised how versatile these crafts have become. Not to mention that the options are now as long as you’ll find when looking at a new car! The customization potential is only limited to your own imagination, and of course how deep your wallet is, but that beside the point.
The PWC market offers so many models that if you’re truly interested, you’ll have no problem finding one or more products that will fit you like glove.
So that’s it for now ‘cause we gotta get back to doin’ what we do best. Gettin’ this stuff on the water and seein’ how it performs in real life.
See ya’ on the water …
