Amphibia Performance Sunglasses

amphibia-depthcharge-sunglasses-heroFinally, someone decided to make floating sunglasses that don’t suck—and that look stylish enough to be worn more places than just the lake.

Amphibia Sports has done us all a favor.

You’re probably thinking that it will take something pretty darn revolutionary to get you out of your Costa’s and into something else.

I don’t blame you, but keep an open mind and read this whole post before you write it off.

Let’s look at the next generation of performance eye ware.

Yes, They Float

Regardless of the model you choose, each pair of glasses Amphibia makes have their Aircell technology built into the frame.

That means if you slip while wading, fall off the boat somehow, or wipe out wake boarding, your shades will not make for the bottom like they are wearing cement shoes.

They manage to add this functionality without making the glasses look ridiculous, so your wife won’t make you buy an alternative pair that won’t embarrass her.

As you’ll see next, they also accomplish floatation without making sacrificing toughness.

Brace For Impact

Amphibia’s two high end models, the Hydra and Hydrafoil are the first and only floating sunglasses on the market that are ANSI rated.

For those of you who don’t know (as I didn’t before speaking with the folks at Amphibia), ANSI is the American National Standards Institute. They are a private, non-profit third party that creates standards and ratings for consumer benefit.

Sound a little complicated? Here’s what you need to know as it pertains to these glasses—they are tough as nails.

Get Rid of Headaches

Personally, after a day on the water, I can go home with a headache.

I would like to think that the headache is merely the result of knowing I have to return to my responsibilities and be a grown up, but there is really something else going on.

If you’ve ever experienced a headache from a long day of fishing while wearing your glasses, it is mostly likely the result of two factors.

First, you have a pinching from the frames. Most glasses designed for fishing have a tighter fit so they don’t come off in the water. Amphibia eliminates the pinch by using a flexible material that actually conforms to the contours of your head over time.

Every dome is different, and Amphibia realizes this fact.

The next reason you get a headache is UV radiation. Most polarized glasses do not block UV radiation. So you end up squinting a little all day, and your pupils constrict as well. After eight hours of fishing, your eyes are tired, and that headache is creeping in.

Try Something New

Don’t get too locked into tradition, you might be missing out on something you will love.

When I walked over the the Amphiba Sports booth I didn’t expect to find something worth getting excited over—but I did. If you are in the market for some new glasses, have a look and give these a go.
