Macomb County, Mi—Maybe coming up short can be the fuel a person needs to stoke their fire. Maybe finishing runner-up to a legend was just the sort of thing Brock Mosley needed to turn that fire into a blaze.
Mosley finished second at the St Lawrence river in July and the legendary KVD took home the trophy.
Coming so close to beating the greatest of all time probably feels pretty good for the second-year pro, but nothing like hoisting that trophy would.
“When you beat everybody except Kevin, that’s pretty good,” Mosley said, “but coming so close really did motivate me for the rest of the season.”
That motivation led to a 25 pound, 8 ounce bag coming to the scales which shot his two-day total up to 45 pounds, 13 ounces. Catching a good limit early, he went searching for bigger fish. He was rewarded with a 5 1/2 pounder. All of this while, as Mosley put it, “goofing around.”
“I really wasn’t expecting to cull a four-pounder, but that’s the kind of day it was,” Mosley would explain.
Opening day leader Bradley Roy had a solid day as well, bringing home 21 pounds, 9 ounces which was good to maintain third place.
Alabama pro Matt Lee charged hard and brought 5 fish weighing 23 pounds, 3 ounces to the stage.
Only a pound separates first from third however, as this promises to get more exciting on Saturday.
