Brian Latimer has been around the scene for a while, but over the weekend on Lake Seminole, he took the spotlight for himself.
While his tournament total of 80 pounds, 15 ounces is impressive, it was only enough to edge out Braxton Setzer by 2 pounds, 1 ounce. The field was definitely on his heals, but he handled the pressure like a champ.
To get his first win, Latimer had a multi-faceted approach to Lake Seminole.
On day one, he spent most of his time cranking in the Flint river and was rewarded with a 19 pounds, 1 ounce bag for his efforts.
He had to change the approach on day two when cranking just wasn’t getting the job done.
The approach he settled on was flipping grass and targeting big fish. He zeroed in on a nice Flint river flat with loads of vegetation and tossed his baits at aggressive pre-spawn fish.
For his efforts, Latimer is going home to South Carolina with a trophy and a six-figure check, and now sits 17th in the Angler of the Year standings.
