Tennessee – When everyone is catching fish, things usually get pretty wild.
The FLW series on Cherokee Lake was one of those tournaments, but it wasn’t the back and forth, different leader every day type of event.
Nope. Andrew Upshaw made it all look easy, and went wire-to-wire and all told, brought 67 pounds, 10 ounces of Tennessee green fish.
“I wanted to be around the deepest water and the steepest banks”
Andrew Upshaw
The plan was simple – target spawning smallmouths on mid-lake islands. The strategy paid off and resulted in the first win for the 8-year pro from Texas.
He didn’t do it by much though. Grae Buck was only 1 pound, 2 ounces behind him.
Targeting rock piles on the final day allowed Upshaw to cull a few little guys. And that was exactly what he needed to maintain that lead.
Besides a nice $100,000 check, Upshaw puts himself in a wonderful position to make his third FLW cup.
