Fly fishing has tremendous healing powers. If you’ve ever called in sick to work only to go get your medicine on the water, you know exactly what I am talking about.
What I am talking about is just a little stress relief though. Can fly fishing be a part of something bigger?
That’s exactly what Project Healing Waters is out to prove. They provide fly fishing instruction to wounded military and defenseĀ personnelĀ in an effort to help them regain some of the physical and emotional capacities they have lost.
They use the skills involved in fly fishing, and fly tying, to make little physical improvements.
Beyond that, think about all of the mental benefits you get out of fly fishing, and fishing in general. Imagine how much more important it is for someone who has been injured serving his or her country to be able to find that same kind of mental refuge from everything else going on around them.
What makes Project Healing Waters different from other programs that take veterans fishing, is that they provide an ongoing program. This is not just a one time fishing trip, but a commitment to make their lives better through continued instruction and encouragement.
I can’t think of my life without fishing. Even more so, I cannot think of my life without the physical gifts and abilities I enjoy. I think anyone who lost things that we take for granted everyday, deserves a whole heck of a lot. They deserve our admiration and respect. They deserve our thanks.
They definitely deserve some fly fishing in their lives.

See ya on the water, and if you served, thank you from the bottom of my heart…
