Combats surrounding fleet of other anglers to bring home the win
National Harbor, MD–
For those who haven’t heard yet, Scott pulled off a wire to wire victory which is itself unusual. More odd than that however is the fact that he did this by fishing basically the same areas all four days. He didn’t have a few “secret” spots that he saved to fish just the last day or two.
On the contrary, he fished areas that had a virtual armada of other boats around him the entire tournament. In an interview, he said that the key was realizing that all the pressure on the fish from other anglers around him pushed the fish into spots that weren’t getting hammered.
He watched where the fish were being caught and then went around the other boats to the water that received the least attention and ended up picking up some of his biggest bass of the event.
Don’t think though that this one was a walk in the park for Scott Martin, son of legendary angler Roland Martin. While he had a substantial lead on day one, that margin narrowed each day of the tournament. When the final weigh-in was concluded, Scott took home the trophy with only a 3 ounce cushion.
Nevertheless, that was enough to earn him his fifth FLW Tour title.
For those who are curious what he was using, Scott basically employed three baits over the course of the tournament. A Bruiser Baits paddle-tail worm, Bruiser Baits ribbon-tail worm and a ChatterBait.
Way to go Scott Martin! Congrats from Manversusfish.com
