MANY, La.– Brent Chapman has secured his first Bassmaster Elite victory, and with that, secures the trip to the Classic as well as a $100,000 check.
Actually, the Classic qualification was his second of the year—he had already qualified back in February, but being his first Elite Series victory makes this one extra special.
Chapman stuck to some interesting tactics and tackle to bring home the win.
The Winning Tackle
Who said you need to spend a lot of money on big, brand name baits to catch fish?
Chapman used a spoon purchased from a local tackle shop, with no brand name on it, to wrangle some of his bass over the weekend. In addition to the mystery spoon, he also used the Tightlines green-pumpkin UV Hog on a 3/4-ounce football jig.
The strategy was to stay deep and target large schools of bass with his offerings, and the strategy worked very well.
Top Five Anglers
Other anglers had a good tournament as well. Here is the rundown of the top 5 finishers of the tournament:
- Brent Chapman, 83 pounds, 9 ounces total weight
- Cliff Pace, 79 pounds, 5 ounces
- Marty Robinson, 77 pounds, 11 ounces
- Greg Hackney, 76 pounds, 1 ounce
- Cliff Prince, 69 pounds, 9 ounces
Overall, it was a very good tournament and hard fought all the way. Congrats to all the anglers who had a great tournament.
See ya on the water…
