Duluth GA— Just past the age where he can legally celebrate with an adult beverage, Jacob Wheeler has brought home the richest prize in tournament bass fishing.
It didn’t come easy, and it didn’t come from following the pack.
Wheeler used a unique strategy, and a new bait that just debuted at ICAST, to bring in the winning totals.
In a lake that is dominated by Spotted Bass, Wheeler targeted productive water on the Chattahoochee River to bring in Largemouth bass, and ultimately, a title.
His most productive strategy was targeting bass that were raiding blue gill beds. He flipped around structure and docks, and even mixed in a little top water action as well.
His most productive flipping bait was the Trigger X Goo Bug, and top water bait was mainly the X-Rap Prop.
The winning formula was this—multiple baits in water off the beaten path.
All in all, it was a fine weekend of work for the Fatheadz pro—who now finds himself a bit richer, and maybe more importantly, firmly planted in the record books.
