In the world of fishing the spinnerbait has consistently been used in a host of conditions to put fish in the boat. Spinnerbaits, like most other classes of lures have undergone lots of changes over the years which has made them more versatile in general with design adaptations that have expanded their use to specific applications that would have been unheard of when I had no grey hair!
Of particular interest to us this year at ICAST were the smaller profile baits being debuted by several established companies.
Jackall’s new Eruption Spinnerbait
One of those is Jackall. They debuted the Super Eruption Spinnerbait. This bait has a smaller than average profile, features .8 mm top grade stainless steel wire, a high balance arm angle, super low gravity real finish head, reverse tear drop custom blades, a very sharp hook, multi-colored skirts that are long enough for the angler to trim to their own liking and quality components throughout.
The purpose of all this is to make a spinnerbait that is smaller in appearance while putting out the flash and vibration necessary to still draw fish in from distance for the kill.
Once they commit, even if they hit the wire, it will flex easily enough to allow for an excellent hook-up percentage even without a trailer hook. This should be just the ticket for those of us who make a habit of fishing clear water or heavily pressured fish.
Molix’s FS Spinnerbait
Molix is expanding their line of small profile spinnerbaits to include both a double-willow configuration as well as a willow-colorado version. The head of the FS Spinnerbait is wider than most which gives this bait an additional side to side wiggle while its in the water. This is another spinnerbait targeted at clear water fish and/or highly pressured fish.
Eco Pro’s Rapid Fire Spinnerbait
Eco Pro Tungsten is known for their cutting edge work with weights, jigs and other bottom hugging presentations. But they are expanding their line with the introduction of the Rapid Fire Spinnerbait. This bait is one of the most compact spinners in its weight class.
For the frame to the head, downsizing is accomplished with style without sacrificing the features that make spinnerbait fishing so productive. Quality components complement well thought out design and promise to make this spinnerbait a first teamer.
Duo Realis’s big spinnerbait
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Duo Realis will soon have available a new spinnerbait whose sole purpose is to get down to the big ones. They will have weights of up to 1 1/2 ounces, come in a couple of blade configurations as well as several color options.
None of these baits are going to break the bank, and like we always say, there is a tool for every job.
See ya’ on the water …
