Here at Man Versus Fish, we love all kinds of fishing. We love fishing for all different species, and we love different techniques.
Catfish noodling may be the craziest thing we’ve ever seen!
Now catfish noodling has been around for a long time, and if you’ve never heard of it, I am going to break it down for you, and show you some videos of people getting it done.
Essentially, all you have to do is go where the catfish are. Get out in those slow moving, muddy rivers, where giant cats like to hide.
Next, you want to find a good hole where those big cats are likely to be hiding. Get down in the water, and dig your hand in the mud. Poke your fingers out and make them look like something a big old smelly catfish would like to nibble on.
When the fish finally bites, you thrust your hand into his mouth and grab the back of his gills. This is where things are going to get a bit tough. Turns out, giant catfish don’t like it when you put your hand in their throat and attempt to pull them out of the water. They will fight and roll, and just generally put up a nasty fight.
Besides the fact that a 50 pound catfish is very likely to pull you under with them, and the fact that they will be biting onto your forearm like a beast, there is one more thing you need to worry about—snapping turtles. Coincidentally, the same holes that giant catfish like to hide in, snapping turtles tend to enjoy as well. When these guys bite, you don’t have to worry about a fight, you just need to figure out which of your fingers is now missing!
That’s enough from me, check out these videos of some experts catfish noodling!
Wow! Now, is this for the ladies as well? Apparently it is…
As a side note, in Texas, catfish noodling is called Grabbling.
Technically, this last video isn’t noodling, but this little girl does a pretty good job nonetheless!
