How To Clean Your Electronic Screens

Fishing electronics have come an amazing distance in the past 50 years. From depth finders, fish finders, and gps—to the instruments on the control panel itself—they all share one common thread.

They get dirty!

Fish slime, weeds, grasses, and hard water all have a habit of getting on any and every screen in the cockpit of the boat. When it’s time to get this all taken care of, I have two tips for you that will make it very easy.

Tip Number 1

First, you will need a spray bottle, a little dish soap, and some rubbing alcohol. Put a teaspoon or two of the soap in the spray bottle, and fill the rest with the alcohol.

Mix the two really well, and spray your screens with the mixture. Now wipe them down with a dry cloth, and you will see they are already looking much better.

Those remaining spots are hard water—and hard water requires a slightly different approach.

Tip Number 2

To get rid of the hard water marks on your screens, all you need is a few cloths, and some vinegar.

Soak the cloths in vinegar, and ring them out. They should be thoroughly damp, but not dripping. Now cover your screens with the cloth, and work it in so it sits flat and tight across the whole screen. Let it sit for about 60 seconds, and remove the cloth. Now finish wiping it down with a clean, dry towel.

The vinegar will dissolve the hard water, and your screens should be looking as good as new!

See ya on the water…
