Big Bite Baits Kriet Tail Worm

Today we’re going to look at a new worm from Big Bite Baits. This is the first experience we have had with this company’s products and for our first review on their baits we picked up some Kriet Tail Worms. These worms are available in 6 and 10 inch versions with the 6 inch the one we decided to fish first.

The reason for choosing this worm was its unusual design. At first glance, you swear that you’re looking at a Senko with some kind of swimming tail attached to it. My original reaction was, “Kinda weird looking, don’t you think?” But as is often the case, looks aren’t the end all for picking winners when it comes to bass fishing lures. After all, the day I can truly think exactly like a bass, I’m taking on KVD in a winner take all tournament!

Rigging The Kriet Tail Worm

We rigged the BBB worm on a 5/0 Gamkatsu EWG and decided to use an 1/8 oz weight with it. The worm comes with a handy little hook slot molded into the plastic that does a good job of providing a hiding place for the hook point. While you can rotate the worm, there is no need as rigging it the way it is designed places the tail on one side of the bait and provides a lot of action from the swimming tail.

During our time on the water with the Kriet Tail Worm we experimented with several retrieves in different water depths with varying amounts of vegetation and contrasting bottom composition. While the worm was at least adequate in almost all of the conditions that we fished it, there was one situation where it really excelled. Swimming and hopping it through grass drew more strikes on this bait than all the other retrieves combined.

The vast majority of these strikes were absolutely awesome. The fish didn’t play with the worm, they attacked it and ate it! There wasn’t a single fish we caught on the Big Bite Bait that didn’t crush the lure and in point of fact, several of the fish were very difficult to unhook because they hit the worm so hard.

Perfect For Low Light Conditions

I know that some folks still haven’t gotten around to using the big worms in the summer or in low light conditions. I’ve spoken to a bunch of people who feel as though they are limiting their opportunities for catching numbers of fish or they believe that a 10 inch worm just can’t possible entice fish to bite in the bodies of water they most often fish.

All I can say is that you really never know until you try and the Big Bite Baits Kriet Tail Worm is one that certainly deserves the consideration of anyone who is thinking about taking the plunge and fishing a big worm for the first time. It is easy to rig and fish and although its overall length is 10 inches, the body of the worm is only about 65% of that length. The action is exceptional and it’s just downright fun to use.

On our MVF rating scale, the Big Bite Baits Kriet Tail Worm earns 4 stars.
