Owner has been a trusted name in the tackle industry for a lot of years. This year they have debuted a brand new product named the Owner JigRig Weighted Hook. This product uses an elongated weight that is attached to a ring on the hook eye. This ring is not a split ring but rather welded for increased strength.
Then the weight is attached to this ring via a split ring so that the size of the weight can be changed out rather easily. Due to this configuration, a bait will sink straight down on slack line and come to rest very near the bottom.
This is the difference as opposed to a standard Texas rig. The JigRig will elevate your bait just above the bottom like an extremely short drop-shot. When retrieved, the bait then has a different action than it otherwise would given that it was hugging the bottom.
With the weight forward like this and the slight elevation off the bottom, the theory is that a fish can get all of the bait in its mouth easier with the added benefit of not having to suck in the sinker with it. The result, hypothetically, is a surer hookset and less missed fish. There will be a number of different weights and hook sizes available when these are released.
