Fishing the Lip Ripperz Jig

We wanted to switch gears a little to review some products made for trout fishing. We’ve mentioned trout fishing in the past for a few reasons. One of which, it is a good way to introduce someone new to angling because we’re dealing mostly with stocked fish. So what do we have in the way of lures to target trout? [Read more…]

Mustad Grip-Pin Swim Hook review

One of the things that we always do this time of year is go through our tackle box to see what, in terms of terminal tackle, needs to be replaced or if there are some new goodies out there that will fill a need that we have that we would like to try. Hooks are always a part of this process as they do get lost, dulled or some other calamity befalls them during the season. [Read more…]

Don’t quit fishin’ just because it’s a little cold outside!

With the holidays coming to a close, we just wanted to wish all y’all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hopefully you got everything that you wished for and then some including all those new lures, rods, reels and terminal tackle items that you were looking for. With that in mind, we have one question for you. Why are you going to wait for warm weather to arrive before you get back out on the water and put it to good use? [Read more…]

Megabass Pony Gabot Review

Megabass is known for its high quality hard-baits. In particular, I don’t think anyone with a modicum of bass fishing experience has never heard of the Ito Vision 110. The jerkbait that is the measuring stick for this genre of lures. But have you heard of the Megabass Pony Gabot Frog? Yup, another hollow body, topwater frog. The real question is whether or not this bait can live up to the considerably high standards of the Vision. [Read more…]

Jackall Super Eruption Spinnerbait

Jackall Lures has been making quality hard and soft baits for some time. We have reviewed a number of them and have come to appreciate the quality and innovation they bring to the table. However, they haven’t entered the wire bait market until this year with the introduction of the Super Eruption Spinnerbait. [Read more…]

Seaguar Tatsu Fluorocarbon Line

In our last review we eluded to the fact that we were using a new line, at least to us, on the Energy PT. This is the subject of our review. Seaguar’s Tatsu Fluorocarbon line. Granted, we don’t use fluoro’s for the majority of our testing as the cost can be prohibitive but that doesn’t mean we exclude them entirely. [Read more…]

Happy Thanksgiving!

As y’all know, we don’t like to get political around here. However, we think there are times when looking back is well worth it. So for this Thanksgiving, we thought that you might enjoy seeing the proclamation from George Washington that made Thanksgiving a national holiday. We are going to quote it verbatim and in its entirety.

Happy Thanksgiving from manversusfish.com! [Read more…]

The new Quantum Energy PT Casting reel

In our coverage of ICAST 2013, we mentioned some of the new reels that debuted in Vegas. The subject of our in-depth review today is on the new Quantum Energy PT. This reel was only available in right-hand retrieve but will soon be sold in the left-hand version. If you’ve been with us for a while, you know that we prefer the left-handed models. [Read more…]

ICAST 2013: Baits You May Not See

So we’ve talked a bit about all the new baits, rods, reels, lines and terminal tackle that you’ll be seeing soon on your favorite tackle store’s shelves. But there are a few items that got our attention at ICAST this year that you probably won’t see anywhere including some from names that you already are familiar with.

Let’s start with a couple that we got wind of last year that were still in the development stage and are now going into production. The problem with these first two is that while they are being released, they aren’t going to be available in the U.S. market. [Read more…]

ICAST 2013 Crankbaits

ICAST 2013 has now come and gone and we haven’t had much time to just sit down and sort through all the information that we got while we were there. This year we thought that, as opposed to giving you a laundry list of new offerings, we would instead focus on those products that caught our attention more than any others as well as showing you some new baits that are available, just not in our market!
