Today we’re going to look at a new worm from Big Bite Baits. This is the first experience we have had with this company’s products and for our first review on their baits we picked up some Kriet Tail Worms. These worms are available in 6 and 10 inch versions with the 6 inch the one we decided to fish first. [Read more…]
The Revenge Buzzbait
Here we go again gang, let’s look at another summer time lure, the Revenge Buzzbait. Yes, summer time is buzzbait time. The trouble is that we are still waiting for summer around here.
Overnight temps as I write this are in the high 50’s. Considering it’s almost June, this is beyond cool, it is bordering on frigid. Anyway, let’s look at the Revenge and see how it stacks up against other lures in this genre. [Read more…]
Poor Boys Baits Erie Darter
Today let’s look at a new bait from Poor Boys named the Erie Darter. The first time I saw this soft plastic lure I was thinking in terms of how I could rig it. At 4 inches in length I was thinking about using it on a drop-shot rig or possibly a darter head or some other type of jig head. [Read more…]
Kevin VanDam Line And Lure Conditioner
Today let’s talk about one of those annoying maintenance items that is as far from sexy as you get when it comes to the items you carry in your tackle box – line conditioner. My personal preference for this item is KVD line conditioner. While it wasn’t the first, in my opinion, it is the best. [Read more…]
Attrax Mystic Frog
Today we’re going to look at another frog bait. I know that we have done a couple of these lately but that is because this is the time of year when this genre of lures is at it’s most effective. From now until late summer, there is a good chance that you will have some great days on the water throwing some kind of frog bait. [Read more…]
Netbait BK Swim Bait Revisited
I had the itch so bad the other night to go fishing that I went to this small, private facility that is very close to the house to see what the bass were doing and, of course, to test some new lures.
The problem is that this park stocks catfish during the summer and holds derbies that allow the anglers to fish all night. What that translates to is people lighting fires, lining up rods on shore for yards at a time and throwing all manner of stinky things into the water trying to catch kitty cats. [Read more…]
Koppers Live Target Hollow Body Frog
Well gang, here it is mid May and one of the lure categories I look forward to using most is the venerable hollow body frog. There are a few new offerings in this category for 2011 and we’re going to take a look at one of them tonight. The Koppers Live Target Hollow Body Frog. [Read more…]
Cavitron Buzzbait Review
It’s almost summer around here although we are experiencing another cold front and some unseasonably high rain totals, I had to look at another lure category that is just plain fun to fish, the buzz-bait.
I picked up some Cavitron buzzers and have now had them for over a year and have caught fish on them. So let’s get down to business and take a closer look at them. [Read more…]
Izorline XXX Super Co-Polymer Review
In honor of our new rating system, tonight I am going to take a look at a fishing line that came highly recommended to me which I decided to give a try. I picked up Izorline XXX Super Co-Polymer in two different pound classes. The first was 4 pound which I spooled on a couple of my Pflueger Presidents for this past trout season. The second was 8 pound that landed on a couple of bait-casters which I use all year long, even in the depth of winter, for bass fishing. [Read more…]
What Brent Ehrler Can Teach You About Using What You Have
Recently we’ve had some folks write to us expressing some frustrations about their local waters both in terms of the size of the lakes and the pressure that the fish see day to day. They often talk about wishing that they had access to more and larger impoundments to try to become more proficient at bass fishing. [Read more…]
