Bass Pro Shops Reel Trade In Event Dates

Bass Pro Shops has officially announced the dates for their annual Reel Trade In event.

The event will begin on February 24th, the same day as the Bassmaster Classic, and will run until February 29th.

In Canada, the dates are March 9th-March 14th.

If you are looking for a new reel, this is the time to get it. The way it works is pretty simple—you trade in your old reel, and you get up to $100 toward the value of a new one, which is already discounted due to the Spring Fishing Classic!

If you are having a little trouble figuring out which reel to get into, here are three of our top picks for this year…

Abu Garcia Revo MGX

This reel features a one piece X-Mag allow frame with carbon sideplates, only weighs 5.4 ounces, and has a new braking system that features 28 levels of external adjustment.

At this time, it is only available in right-hand retrieve.

Daiwa T3 Casting Reel

Zaion Carbon Frame and sideplate, weighs 6.5 ounces, employs the T-Wing casting system, and the Magforce 3D cast control system that allows 20 different fine tuning increments and 3 different modes.

How To Catch More Bass With Swimbaits

Three Simple Tips For To Catch More Bass On Your Next Fishing Trip

It’s no secret that we love swimbaits here at MVF. In fact, the Netbait BK was selected as our bait of the year.

The reason is simple—they work, and they work well!

Nonetheless, you can always improve. In this video, I am going to show you three simple tweaks you can make to catch more bass on your next trip. I will warn you in advance—your thumb is probably going to get sore! [Read more…]

Hybrid Bass

On a recent trip, a friend and I got into an amazing school of hybrid bass.

My friend hasn’t been fishing that long, so after about an hour or so, and us each catching a few, he finally asked what type of fish it was. He’d caught largemouth before, and had seen stripers and smallies on TV, but this one was new to him.

He said he had heard before of white bass, and wondered if that was what we were pulling in with such regularity. After I explained exactly what a hybrid bass is, it occurred to me that others might also have the same question. [Read more…]

Get Ready For The Bass Pro Shops Trade In Event!

Hey gang, just wanted to drop a quick reminder on everyone that one of the annual events that we always look forward to is about to happen. The reel trade in event at your local Bass Pro Shops will be held during the Spring Fishing Classic.

Depending on your reel of choice, you can save a nice little chunk of change. We always try to get there the first day as soon as the store opens to get the best selection. One little hint here, it tends to be more efficient to know what you’re after before you get there or at least have your selection narrowed down to a few possibilities. This event does tend to draw a crowd so the sooner the better.  [Read more…]

Medlock Wins On Okeechobee With A Double Guard Jig…Again!

Brandon Medlock, of Lake Placid, Fl., has done it again.

Over the weekend, he won the FLW Everstart Southeast event on Lake Okeechobee—a feat he accomplished last year. While that may seem interesting in its own right, even more intriguing is the fact that he did it with the exact same lure and technique—something he calls the Double-Guard Jig.

Brandon’s dad is the man responsible for the bait, which is a huge 1 oz. jig, with a 6/0 hook that is “guarded” by two weed guards. The double guards apparently add balance, and of course, extra weed protection. [Read more…]

Chris Lane Posts Huge Total To Win Harris Chain Open

Even though the 2012 Bassmaster Classic is still a month away, the first qualifier for the 2013 Classic is already determined.

Guntersville Alabama native Chris Lane posted a monster 72 lbs., 11 oz. total to win the first event of the Southern Open Series. His closest competitor was Clifford Pirch of Arizona who took second place with 58 lbs., 1 oz.

Lane has now won three Bassmaster events—all of them in Southern Open events, and all of them in Florida.

The berth into the 2013 Classic is provisional. All Lane has to do to finalize the spot is fish the remaining two Southern Open events. [Read more…]

B.A.S.S. Bans Alabama Rig For 2012 Classic And Elite Events

I do believe I made mention of the Alabama rig being the most controversial bait in all of bass fishing a few days ago.

Well, an announcement was made today that only seems to add validity to my claim.

Originally reported by Bassmaster.com in this article, the BASS rules committee has enacted a “one lure” rule. This rule effectively outlaws the aforementioned Alabama rig, as well as the donkey, or double rig, and a few others. [Read more…]
