ICAST 2012: Wright & McGill

Wright & McGill are adding to their line-up with a new Rick Clunn Cranking Reel. The colors are designed to match the rods that Rick designed for them and it features a 6.3:1 gear ratio.

Yes, it isn’t what you would usually think of these days as the ideal speed for cranking, but Rick Clunn explains that he tends to fish these plugs faster than the average guy and he can always slow down if he needs to.

The rods will continue from last year and, like all Wright & McGill products that Rick endorses, are value priced.   [Read more…]

ICAST 2012: Freedom Hawk Kayaks

ICAST is always full of hundreds, if not thousands of new baits.

Some of them really stand out from the crowd, others don’t. That’s reality.

One of the things that gets me really excited though, are things that can help us get fishing more. Anything that gets us on the water, having a good time, and catching fish is great in my book.

With the new Pathfinder kayak, that is what the folks over at Freedom Hawk Kayaks have done. We were all over the floor at ICAST, and there was nothing quite like this.

It was truly one of my favorites. [Read more…]

ICAST 2012: Sebile

If you fish with Sebile products, then you already know the commitment they have to creating products that display an out of the box thinking.

They work very hard to bring innovative designs to market—designs that will catch fish and lots of them.

They are meant to be fished across different species and catch all kinds.

The products that debuted at ICAST 2012 were no different.

There are three products that we will take a closer look at today based on the product showcase. We will have all of these products on the water for proper testing soon. [Read more…]

ICAST 2012 Live Post: Stinky Fingers Bait Company

As you know, we’ve been hunting out the unique, strange and unusual at ICAST 2012.

We found a bait company that is absolutely bringing something unique to the table, and deserves some coverage.

Stinky Fingers Bait Co. has done something with scent that we have not seen before. It isn’t that they’ve developed a new scent or some magic bass attractant that will make bass jump into your boat without effort.

What they’ve done is make huge changes to the way that scent is housed in a bait, and delivered to the fish. They’ve changed the level of scent that you can get into a bait.

There really is nothing else like this on the floor anywhere at ICAST. [Read more…]

ICAST 2012 Live Post: BOTE Stand Up Paddle Boards

You have to love it when two sports start merging together to make something new happen.

BOTE is a company that makes stand up paddle boards. For those of you not familiar with SUP, it’s a hybrid form of surfing that incorporates elements of kayaking as well.

Seeing as SUP is already a bit of a hybrid sport, adding one more thing to the mix seems pretty natural. [Read more…]

ICAST 2012 Live Post: Evolve Baits

I love when a manufacturer really goes for it.

When they put some serious work into their line, and the whole line stands out, it is truly a special thing.

Evolve Baits did just that this year at ICAST.

Every bait in the booth from Evolve had something that made it unique. Whether it was the detail, the styling, the engineering, or the materials, they put care and consideration into their products. [Read more…]

ICAST 2012 Live Post: Lucky Bug Lures

At ICAST, you don’t see a ton of fly fishing gear.

You see even less gear that can work with both fly, and standard tackle. Lucky Bug Lures has created something to do just that.

The Lucky Bug is a straight shank, Eagle Claw hook that is set inside a small plastic body and adorned with hackle, or flash. They come in several different sizes to fit your style of fishing, and the species of fish you target.

As mentioned above, they are very versatile and can be trolled, used on spinning tackle (with a split shot or a casting bubble), or fly fished. [Read more…]

ICAST 2012 Live Post: Savage Gear

In keeping with our theme of finding the new and unusual, we are very excited about this!

A European company is making some inroads stateside, and competitors should be put on notice. These guys are talented, and really know what they are doing.

There is some serious, outside-the-box thinking going on at Savage.

Take a look at a few of these designs and you will quickly see why we find them so exciting. [Read more…]

ICAST 2012 Live Post: Jackall Lures

Jackall lures are known for excellent craft and quality design.

This is a company that pays attention to details, and produces a product commensurate with that commitment. This year at ICAST 2012 they have a handful of new designs that really stand out among a giant crowd.

Let’s look at a few designs that will make their way into your tackle box soon. [Read more…]
