Zerek Rocker Vib Lipless Crankbait

Zerek Rocker Vib Packaging

Lipless crankbaits are one of those staple lures that we all carry but don’t often think much about in the cold winter months. This can be a mistake though as there are days when the bass, in spite of the chilly weather, will absolutely crush these lures.

With that in mind, we picked up some of the new Zerek Rocker Vib’s to give a go around some of our local waters.  [Read more…]

Strike King KVD 1.0

There are times when you need to downsize your offering, so today we’re taking an in depth look at the new Strike King KVD 1.0. We have reviewed the 1.5 and 2.5 and were very pleased with these baits. When we saw the 1.0 at ICAST, we knew that we had to pick up some of these and get them on the water. [Read more…]

Strike King KVD Silent Stalker

We’ve looked at the standard Strike King 6XD so we decided to give its cousin, the Strike King KVD Silent Stalker 6XD a go as something different for when the fish shut down on the standard version. What are the mechanical differences between the two? Obviously, the silent stalker is SILENT! Okay, that’s just the biggest one but certainly the most important. The fact of the matters is that fish can get used to and turned off by a bait. That’s when a difference like this can really shine!  [Read more…]

Strike King Pro Model 6XD

Let’s look at another summer time bait that has the potential to put a bunch of fish in the boat for you, Strike Kings 6XD crankbait. Yes, this is another collaboration between Strike King and Kevin VanDam and one that KVD used en route to another Angler of the Year title last year.

The 6XD is designed to go deep and elicit the reaction bite. For a long time, the big name in the deep diving crankbait world was the Norman DD22. Will this offering from Strike King supplant the Norman? Who knows. However, it’s another very good tool that is available to anglers for these hot summer months to get down where the fish are and tempt them into striking.

So let’s look at the Strike King 6XD and see what if anything makes this bait unique. [Read more…]

Spro Little John DD Crankbait

The Spro Little John crankbait is not a new bait, but since I have been having some tremendous success with it lately, I thought it worth a review.

The Little John is different from the Fat John in the depth that it dives. This bait is designed to dive in the 15-20 foot range, while the Fat John is a shallow runner. Having the Little John in your tackle box alongside the Fat John makes for a dynamite pairing that will put fish in the boat all day. [Read more…]

Spro Fat John Shallow Diving Crankbait

Kevin VanDam and I have something in common—we are both bass fishing crankbait monsters!

Ok, ok, maybe I’m not quite the crankbait fisherman KVD is, but it is still one of my favorite ways to go after bass. Recently, I picked up a few Spro Fat John shallow running crankbaits to test out and review. [Read more…]

KVD Silent Stalker Review

We went out trout fishing on the 4th and as usual, I took a bait-casting rod with me so that I could test a couple of new lures. The first is the one I am going to review today, the KVD Silent Stalker Square Bill 1.5 crankbait. Yeah, it’s a lot of name but was one of the baits that last year was a prototype and helped Kevin VanDam win his third consecutive AOY title. [Read more…]
