Detroit, Mich. — Drama was not the order of the day this weekend on Lake St. Clair. Instead, Todd Faircloth made steady, consistent improvements each day to take home his fifth B.A.S.S. career victory.
Faircloth brought a 22 pound, 2 ounce bag to the final weigh in. That was good to put him six pounds ahead of his nearest competitor.
A drop-shot fishing in 15-18 feet of water was the magic formula to bring home the trophy. Most of the fish swallowed a Strike King Z Too Soft jerkbait in the Arkansas Shiner pattern.
It’s been a rough year for Faircloth, but this win made a huge impact on his standings for the season. The Texas native had only one top-ten finish to his credit this year, but the win on St. Clair moved him up to 40th in the AOY. and affords him the chance to fish in the Angler of the Year Championship in September.
Aaron Martens Wins Angler of the Year
Aaron Martens fished well enough for a sixth place finish.
While he undoubtedly came to win, the finish was good enough to secure the Angler of the Year title. The third such title of Martens’ career should come as no small consolation.
The top 50 pros will now turn their attention to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin where they will compete for a share in over $1 million in prize money.
That tournament will take place September 17th – 20th.
