Carl Jocumsen Becomes First Aussie To Win Bassmaster Elite Event

Tahlequah, Ok. – Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi.

For fans of Australian sports this is a familiar call. It rings with national pride and just plain old fun.

But it is not the only appropriate refrain to celebrate Carl Jocumsen’s Elite Series win, Happy Birthday would work too.

Jocumsen turned 35 on Sunday, and got probably the best birthday present in the history of ever.

He pulled up to the scales with 19 pounds, 12 ounces of Oklahoma bass in tow, more than enough to move him from 3rd place to hoisting a trophy.

The Winning Strategy

Jocumsen focused on a strategy that was very different than the field.

Primarily focusing on offshore, deep structure, he relied heavily on electronics to find the most potentially productive spots.

All of his fish were caught on a 3/4 ounce Molix Football Jig, with a Strike King Rage Craw in Green Pumpkin for a trailer.

For the win, Jocumsen, takes home $100,000 and a one-way ticket to the 2020 Bassmaster Classic.

And just to put a little icing on the cake, he will be getting married in two weeks. Did anyone have a better month than this guy?
