Big Bite Baits Shaking Squirrel Worm

Today we’re going to look at another new offering for this season. Big Bite Baits Jeff Kriet – Shaking Squirrel. This is a slender, straight tail worm that was designed with dropshotting in mind. The Squirrel comes in two sizes, 4.5 and 6 inches respectively and are value priced at $2.99 a pack.

While there aren’t a myriad of colors by today’s standards, about a dozen, I like the palette as a whole. Several of the colors use a layered affect while others add chartreuse to the tails which saves the angler the trouble of having to dip them in dye.

You just open the package, get one out, put it on your hook and you’re fishing. No muss, no fuss. So what are they like in the water?

Shaking Squirrel Worm Action

If you’re used to dropshotting you know that baits that stay horizontal in the water tend to work the best. Another thing that you’re looking for is a bait that will move, twitch, quiver or vibrate with the slightest bounce of your rod tip. You want to be able to impart action to it without having to work it. You want your approach to be as stealthy as it can be especially for heavily pressured fish.

The Shaking Squirrel fits the bill nicely. It does all of the aforementioned things easily, consistently and requires almost no effort from the angler to be effective when used in the right conditions. And what might some of those conditions be?

We have had questions from some of our readers who have tried dropshotting with little or no success and they were wondering why.

The short answer is the water is too stained, and the retrieve is too fast (the longer answer will be coming in a later post, so stay tuned!)

The Squirrel is a soft plastic that enhances your ability to impart action to it with almost no effort.

We found in our testing we got most of our strikes with just barely, and I mean barely manipulating our rod tips as our sinker was stationary. We would leave the Squirrel in place for about fifteen seconds before moving the whole rig 6 – 8 inches and repeating the process. I guess the fish just got tired of us shaking the squirrel right in their faces.

If you’re new to dropshotting or haven’t had much success with it, give the Squirrel a go. It’s effective and value priced.
