One component of fishing that can make a huge difference in everything from angler fatigue to hook up ratio, having the ability to present a bait properly, casting distance and accuracy as well as myriad other concerns is a good, balanced rod. Yes, the stick you’re using can, depending on which one you’re throwing, either… [Continue Reading]

Daiwa Kage Rod Review

Daiwa introduced their Tatula series of reels several years ago beginning with the original Tatula 100 and 100 Type R. We’ve had every major version update since then including the CT Type R and the SV. We obtained the new Tatula 100 some time last year and have been fishing with it ever since.

There are times when big topwater walking baits are key to getting bites while other situations may call for something a little less boisterous. One bait that you can use that still has a decent length to it but presents itself with more subtlety is the Berkley Drift Walker. This bait comes in ten colors… [Continue Reading]

Anthony Gagliardi Wins the Big Prize at the Forrest Wood Cup

Anthony Gagliardi wins the Forrest Wood CupColumbia, SC– Narrow. That’s the word used to describe Anthony Gagliardi’s margin of victory, but even that might not be descriptive enough.

The Chevy Pro bested second place by an ounce. One. Single. Ounce.

That ounce is, without a doubt, the most valuable ounce of fish in the history of fishing, as Gagliardi makes his way home with the $500,000 that goes along with winning the cup.

And it’s not like he has a long trip home in front of him, as he calls nearby Prosperity, South Carolina home. [Read more…]

Fishing the new Jackall Scissor Comb

We’ve been fishing some of the baits that we obtained at ICAST 2014 since we got back home. The one that we’re going to review today is the new soft plastic offering from Jackall, the Scissor Comb. This new lure is one that really doesn’t fit into any existing design category so we’re gonna do our best to give you the skinny on it! [Read more…]

Nowadays, you can find all kinds of flavor infused baits including those that use salt, coffee, pork fat as well as other ingredients. These all sound like main entrees but the question today is – Do bass have a sweet-tooth? [Read more…]

Mike Iaconelli Calls His Shot on the Delaware

Iaconelli Wins on the Delaware RiverPhiladelphia, PA– The story of Ike’s big win on the Delaware River actually begins 6 months ago in Guntersville Alabama.

When Mike Iaconelli took the stage to weigh in that day, something was very different—and I’m not just talking about the “war beard” I’ve been encouraging him to grow back. Ike is known for enthusiasm.

The man wears his heart on his sleeve, and says what’s on his mind.

He didn’t have a whole lot to say that day, clearly disappointed in his performance in the biggest tournament there is. What he did say, however, spoke volumes. [Read more…]

Gettin’ small with the Berkley Havoc Pit Boss Jr.

Some of you folks may have never experienced fish turning off to a particular bait seemingly as if by a switch. When that happens one of the ways you can combat that is by changing the size of your offering.

The Berkley Havoc Pit Boss Jr. is a bait made just for this situation. [Read more…]

The New Vicious Crankbait Combines Quality and Affordability

You know the old saying, “If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is!” What if we told you that there is a $4 crankbait out there that is an effective lure? No, it’s not used, it’s brand new in a package. You would probably roll your eyes as if we were crazy. [Read more…]

Going stealth with the Eco Pro Rapid Fire Spinnerbait

Fishing spinnerbaits is one of our favorite ways to catch bass. Living in So-Cal, the fish have seen so many that there comes a time to throw them a change up. We saw the Eco Pro Tungsten Rapid Fire Spinnerbait at the ICAST 2013 for the first time and knew right away that we had to try one. [Read more…]

Amphibia Performance Sunglasses

amphibia-depthcharge-sunglasses-heroFinally, someone decided to make floating sunglasses that don’t suck—and that look stylish enough to be worn more places than just the lake.

Amphibia Sports has done us all a favor.

You’re probably thinking that it will take something pretty darn revolutionary to get you out of your Costa’s and into something else.

I don’t blame you, but keep an open mind and read this whole post before you write it off.

Let’s look at the next generation of performance eye ware. [Read more…]

iCast 2014 Winners, Trends, And Reactions

iCast 2014Orlando, FL– The fishing world converged on Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center between June 15 – 18.

The show was the biggest yet, and despite this writer struggling to get a solid WiFi signal during the show, was also the best yet.

In one room, tackle manufacturers, clothing and eye ware companies, and everything in between displayed their wares and talked the talk with buyers and media members—all in an effort to jostle for position and be noticed.

Let’s get right to business, and have a look at the winners from the new product showcase. [Read more…]

NetStaff: Wading Staff and Net in One

I’ve been covering this industry for a good while now, so it takes a lot to get me excited.

Today was one of those rare days where I came across a product that is both unique, and actually useful. The NetStaff is not a new product (they debuted at last year’s show, and shame on me for missing it), but it is so pragmatic that I had to write this right away.

The elegance of the product is in the simplicity, and the several applications all built into one. Anything that keeps an angler fishing more, and managing their equipment less, is a solid application in my book. [Read more…]
