Boyd Duckett Takes Home Championship And Classic Berth In New York

Syracuse, New York– Boyd Duckett has a lot to be thankful for these days. The Demopolis, Alabama pro has a two week old son at home, a nice looking trophy and $100,000 from the Ramada Championship on Oneida, and now knows what he will be doing in February next year—fishing the Classic.

Before the tournament, Duckett was in 53rd place in the point standing, so a win was just about the only thing that would keep him from missing a second consecutive Classic. [Read more…]

JVD Wins His First Elite Series Event In Wisconsin

Kevin VanDam isn’t the only angler in town

Green Bay, Wisconsin– Jonathon VanDam may not be the most famous person in his family, but he’s off to a good start. JVD boated a four day total bag of 79 pounds, 2 ounces of smallmouth bass to win the Bassmaster Elite Green Bay Challenge on Lake Michigan.

He edged the more seasoned Brandon Palaniuk by a mere 4 ounces.

Like they say in racing, it doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile.

On top of the standard $100,000 pay day, JVD also claims his first Classic entry—an event his uncle has dominated for over a decade with four wins since 2001. [Read more…]

Bassmaster Elite Mississippi River Rumble Results

Day 2 On Toledo Bend

Brent Chapman moves up 10 spots to take first

MANY, La.– It was a crazy day on the water for the Bassmaster Elite pros—well, at least for Brent Chapman it was. He weighed in a full sack of five lunkers for a total of 25 pounds, 8 ounces.

Added to his Day 1 total of 18 pounds, 1 ounce, and it was good enough to take him from 11th place, all the way to the top of the board.

There are two very interesting things to note about Chapman’s strategy. First, he fished the same spot both days, obviously having much more success in Day 2. Second, he had his limit early—really early. The livewell held the same five fish at 8 am that would later be weighed in. [Read more…]

Day 1 On Toledo Bend

Chris Pace jumps out to an early lead

MANY, La.– Chris Pace has jumped out to an early 10 ounce lead on Toledo Bend after the first day.

Behind him, rounding out the top three, are Denny Brauer and Brandon Palaniuk. Pace, of course, is happy with his early results, yet cannot sit back and become comfortable.

He credits hard practice for his early success. [Read more…]

Jeremy Starks Takes The Slow And Steady Approach To A Win On Douglas Lake

Fishing deep pays off with a big win for Starks’ Second Elite Series Title

He just kept plugging along…

That is an apt description for the approach that led Starks’ to his second title, and a $100,000 pay day.

Using a deep crankbait technique sometimes called long-lining, he was able to secure three last-minute bass that would be the key to his title. Ultimately, he would bring 22 pounds, 5 ounces to the podium on the last day—and an overall total of 81 pounds, 2 ounces.

This was good enough to beat Britt Meyers by nearly two pounds. Aaron Martins finished in third after jumping out to an early lead.

Congrats to Starks on his win and for qualifying for the 2013 Classic. Stay tuned for a breakdown of his long-lining technique later this week.

See ya on the water…
