Blaylock Makes A Strong Season Stronger

Georgetown, Sc.Last week on Lake Hartwell, Arkansas pro Stetson Blaylock finished second. This week on Winyah Bay, he made it happen and hoisted the trophy.

In four days of fishing, Blaylock brought 50 pounds, 15 ounces of bass to the weigh-ins, which was good for a 9 ounce difference between him and the second place finisher Scott Canterbury.

This tournament was a logistical challenge for everyone involved. Competitors had several rivers and creeks to run, and many chose to head up the Cooper River, which for some ended up with 100 miles of travel a day.

Blaylock didn’t make the run, and even though he fought a tough bite throughout the tournament, the decision to stay close was the right one. He focused on fishing what could best be described as a pond off the Waccamaw River.

“When I found my area, I knew it had fish, so I thought I’d get out of here with a Top 35 and roll on to the next one. I didn’t know it had winning potential at all.”

Focusing on this area was the right move, but it didn’t make anything easy. His total weigh in on the final day was only 9 pounds, 3 ounces.

Along with that coveted blue trophy, Blaylock lifted a $100,000 check and a ticket to next year’s Bassmaster Classic.
